Summertime Things

"He was just like summer, and she loved summer.  If she had any wish, it would be to live a lifetime of summers. " Anna Godbersen, Bright Young Things.

I have great memories from my childhood of Summer.  Summer meant no alarm clocks, pool days, sleepovers, cute boys, plenty of ice cream, and tan skin...

I have always loved summertime and still do.

I know it's scorching hot, and Spring just seems so much nicer, but there is just something about summertime that I fall in love with all over again every year.

There is that smell of fresh cut grass first thing in the morning and the sound of lawn mowers in every yard that makes me smile.  My sun-kissed shoulders show evidence of a day enjoyed outside, and sun-dresses become the only sensible option to wear because it's too hot for anything else.

It's the plethora of fresh produce I get to cook with from the local farmer's market.  It's that sweet sweet watermelon that we slice and let run down our faces on a hot day...and the ice cream...I can't forget that you are allowed to eat as much ice cream as you want in the summer...calories don't count, it's too hot.  You sweat out the calories...trust me.

Then there are those crazy thunderstorms that come out of nowhere and make for an unexpected romantic night or maybe just a really good unexpected nap.  It's sitting on the porch swing with Canean, cocktail or book in hand, just doing what people used to do when life was simpler.

Then there are those late sunsets, that for some reason are so much prettier in the summer that they take your breath away.  They are the slight nudge you need to know that He is with you always.

It's these moments that make me fall in love with summer.  So when I start complaining about sweat dripping down my shirt after just showering and all I did was walk to the car, I'm going to try and remember all of these reasons that I love summer so much and soak everyday in...all of these small moments.

These seasons will always come and go, but it's the memories that stay.

Tell me, what are some of your favorite summertime things?
