An Ordinary and Extraordinary Birthday Weekend
"Time stands still best in moments that look suspiciously like ordinary life."
Well I'm officially in my thirties and other than the fact that I like to go to bed around nine every night, I really don't feel like it. This weekend was such an amazing couple of days filled with lots of sweet friends, dance parties, cookouts, naps, cupcakes, cookies, and more! I really felt the love from everyone around me, and I couldn't feel more blessed to have such amazing people in my life.
We kicked the birthday festivities off with a 90's themed dance party that my friends Lindsey and Madeline planned for me complete with the ultimate 90's playlist, black lights, spiked punch, all of your favorite 90's junk food (pop-rocks, fruit roll-ups, bagel bites, cool ranch Doritos, and more), slap bracelets, glow sticks, and friendship bracelets. Everyone danced the night away pretending we were back in high school, had sugar highs, and of course we all dressed in our 90's best outfits! It was such a fun night down memory lane! I have pretty amazing friends I and I'll sure miss them when we move!
Saturday (my actual b-day) started off lazy. I left for the farmer's market only to discover a 5K going on around my neighborhood trapping me inside and I couldn't figure out how to get there so I just turned around and went back home...sigh. Instead, Canean and I walked the dogs, hung out together, and then spent the afternoon with some old friends grilling out. It was the perfect laid back birthday and the weather even warmed up allowing us to be outside for the night.
Sunday was all about catching up from Friday and Saturday night! After all I'm 31 now...so I slept in, had some morning snuggles with Canean, cooked a big breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, and cinnamon toast and took a lovely long walk with the dogs! The weather was 76 and sunny and it had me longing for Spring to come and stay! Today, however, the rain is here for a few days and I am thankful for the birthday weather that I had over the weekend.
I was surprised with going away/birthday notes from friends, a massage gift certificate from Canean, cupcakes at my doorstep, chocolate chip cookies, and more...hands down one of my best birthdays to date!
The quote at the top says it all for me...nothing about this weekend was over the top or crazy, except maybe the 90's dance party...but for the most part it was just ordinary life with friends and my favorite person in the whole world and it was simply the best.
Time did stand still as I spent time with friends, in this life I've been blessed with and I soaked in these moments and memories that I will have forever.
It was a happy birthday indeed. 31 has been treating me right so far, and I can't wait to share with you more that's in store for 2015!
This week take time to savor the moments that might be ordinary, but also just might be extraordinary! Happy Monday guys!
