My Diary of Us

At Home Style Revamp

I have had the same furniture and pretty much the same style in our house since I moved to Orlando after graduating college and even early into our marriage.  When we bought our house in Houston, I decided it was time to revamp the overall feeling to my decorating style.  The new house was bright with an open floor plan and was begging for a fresh take on my bohemian home decor style.  I knew I still wanted a bit of boho, but with an updated twist.  The living room was the first place I wanted to start, along with the office which I transformed the should be dining room into a work space that is open and quite lovely to be in.  After all I spend about 50% of my day right at this very computer screen, and I have never had a special space that felt like an actual office.  I started in both rooms by finding rugs that became my inspiration pieces from Rugs USA.  If you have never checked out this website, you definitely need to the next time you are thinking about buying new rugs.  Their prices are great, the quality is fantastic, and they have something to fit everyone's style!

I chose a vibrant over-dyed rug for the living room knowing that I would have neutral furniture and wanted to let the turquoise color be the focus of the room.  I wanted simple, but with purposeful statement pieces, like my Turkish pillows on the leather couch to provide texture and the detailed throw over the cream tweed chair.  I am slightly obsessed with this rug and it's probably one of my favorite pieces in the whole house! Bonus is that it also doesn't show dog hair, which if you know me that's a huge deal!

For the office, I went the opposite route and chose a neutral rug that felt really elegant, but had a slightly boho pattern.  I wanted a calm office and space to be creative in!  Even the boys love hanging out with me in the office, as you can see.  I couldn't get them to move for the pictures...story of my life.  We made the decision to convert our dining room into an office because we just don't use a dining room often enough and I wanted to make use of the space for something I would use on a daily basis.  I loved the way it turned out and I'll admit the angles in this room are hard to capture the whole feel in a picture, but it opens nicely into the living room and kitchen keeping me from feeling isolated from the rest of the house!

I couldn't be happier with how either room turned out and am loving the new look to our house.  I hope that you will check out Rugs USA if you are in the market for a rug of any size!  I am totally confident you will be able to find something that you love!

Next project...the nursery!!  Ahh!!  So excited...

I partnered with Rugs USA for this post.  All opinions in this post are 100% my own and I only choose to work with brands that I personally stand behind.
