Chili Lime Salted Watermelon
I don't know about you, but my mama always taught me to salt my melons. It can take a mediocre melon to pretty dang good with just a little sprinkle. To me there is nothing that says summer more than a cold slice of watermelon sprinkled with just the right amount of salt. It's the perfect snack, although I can literally eat my weight in watermelon, which actually can turn into a problem. I mean...I guess if you are going to be addicted to a food, fruit is one of the better options, but still y'all...I have ZERO self control when it's a good one! I will tell you that I have found the perfect way to add a little pizazz to your next watermelon that will be a hit at any BBQ or picnic! My chili lime salted watermelon is going to become your new favorite thing to eat this summer, and I can promise you that!
I love the idea of spices with fruit because I am a huge fan of savory and sweet flavors coming together to make an epic combo. And since I happen to be obsessed with watermelon, I am always coming up with recipes to use it in new and exciting ways like my watermelon, cucumber, and mint salad! Another favorite thing of mine to do is to create cocktails with it like my frosty salted watermelon margaritas (again with the salt thing because I can't help myself.) But back to the real reason you are here, and that's to ponder why you have never seasoned your watermelon with chili lime salt before.
Believe me, I have been wondering the same thing ever since I created this little concoction and almost ate an entire watermelon all by myself just yesterday. Do yourself a favor and make my seasoned salt to sprinkle over top of your next watermelon and you can see for yourself just how delicious this pairing actually is!
I have a fun video over Instagram to show you just how easy this spiced salt is to make! Check it out and say hello!
Ingredients:
- 1 Watermelon, sliced into wedges or chopped
- 1 Tsp. Chili Powder
- 1 Tsp. Kosher or Sea Salt
- 1 Tbsp. Lime Zest (about 3 large limes)
- Juice from one lime
Directions:
- Combine chili powder, salt, and lime zest into a mortar and pestle and muddle together until spices are combined.
- Sprinkle liberally on top of watermelon and then finish off with a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
- Serve immediately.
I'm telling you that these simple flavors are going to wow your tastebuds the next time you take a bite of watermelon! And I gotta know, are you a melon salter or are you against it? (My hubby is not a fan, but actually loved this take on it!)
