Grapefruit Ginger, and Sage Fizz: My Diary of Us

Grapefruit, Ginger, and Sage Fizz

I skipped last Thursday's cocktail and I apologize because I know it was hard to go about your weekend without a cocktail.  But it's ok because this week I have the daintiest, prettiest, and most delicious drink for you.  It's definitely a girl's brunch kind of drink and I 'm not thinking the men in your life are going to approve all that much...but who knows, Canean has been known to like a girlie drink here and there!

Grapefruits are just about to come into full season here in Louisiana, and we are pretty lucky to have local ones that grow during the winter months.  I eat them like an orange, just peel and eat no sugar necessary.  For some reason I grew up only slicing them in half and sprinkling sugar on them before eating them, which pretty much cancels the healthiness right out.  It wasn't until about five years ago that I just ate one like I would an orange and I loved it!

Caipirinha Crush: My Diary of Us

Caipirinha Crush

Remember that Brazilian drink that I told you I drank while we were in Miami?  It's basically like the Margarita of Brazil and I'm slightly obsessed.  Since I have had a hard time getting back into the swing of things from vacation I decided that I would whip up a batch of my new favorite drink and pretend I am still on vacay.  That's acceptable right?  These caipirinha crush's are so easy to make and super refreshing too.

It's made with a Brazilian rum called Cachaca which is made from sugar cane, you sweeten it with sugar or agave in this case, and lots of fresh lime juice.  If you love margaritas, I am going to go ahead and say that you will love this drink and it just might...just might...give your margarita a run for it's money.

Pomegranate and Satsuma Gin Martini: My Diary of Us

Pomegranate and Satsuma Gin Martini

I get pretty excited about this time of year because citrus is in season and I love it all.  Here in Louisiana there are gorgeous and delicious oranges of all varieties, satsumas, and grapefruits grown locally.  The first to pop up have been satsumas and they are easy to peel, sweet, and are so pretty with their green skins and orange insides. I loved the idea of pomegranate juice mixed with the tang of a satsuma to create a delicious cocktail.  My pomegranate and satsuma gin martini is the perfect fall drink to highlight seasonal flavors and to kick start your weekend.

One thing this drink has going for it right off the bat is that both the satsumas and the pomegranate seeds make for such a pretty cocktail.  This would be a perfect holiday drink to prepare from now until Christmas.  It could totally be a Halloween cocktail but is also pretty enough for your Thanksgiving table and menu.

The Bubbly Rose Cocktail: My Diary of Us

The Bubbly Rose Cocktail

Happy Thursday, which means it's almost Friday guys!  How has your week been?  Mine has had it's ups and downs if I'm being honest with you, and I am pretty excited that the weekend is approaching.  In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness this month, I wanted to create a pink drink for all of the brave women who have or are currently battling Breast Cancer.  I have been eager to make a drink infused with roses for a while now and it could not be a more perfect drink to celebrate the lives of so many women (that you probably know) that have been affected by Breast Cancer.  The bubbly rose cocktail is for you, your mom, your sister, your daughter, your aunt, your grandmother, and your best friend and it's 100% woman.

Let me explain. This is no ordinary cocktail, and when I put together ingredients I wanted each one represented something special about a woman.

Persimmon Spice Punch: My Diary of Us

Persimmon Spice Punch

This week has flown by, but I have accomplished so much it feels like about ten days should have passed.  I have been working sun up to sun down and have calluses on my hands to prove it.  Like man calluses...ew.  Anyway, I could not be more thrilled that the weekend is around the corner and once again I am celebrating early with my thirsty Thursday tradition that was supposed to only be during the summer months, but then I realized that was a terrible idea.  Why would I stop making cocktails?  So I'm not going to.  My persimmon spice punch is a drink with a kick that will take the edge right off and send you sailing into Friday.

Have you ever had a persimmon?  I sure hadn't until I moved to Louisiana and our old neighbors had a tree in their yard and used to bring me bags full.  And honestly it wasn't love at first bite.  It was mushy, and I don't do mushy.  It wasn't until last year that I tried a persimmon that was perfectly ripe and still firm that I fell in love.  They are kind of a gorgeous fruit too.

Bloody Mary's

Bloody Delicious Mary's

I'm at Round Top this week helping out my mom who has a booth here. It's such a fun place full of antiques and artisans. It never fails, it's always super hot outside and we usually find ourselves with a mimosa popsicle or a cold beer before noon (because that's just what you do here), and I got to thinking that a bloody mary would be delicious too! So this time I'm making my own and serving them up for our thirsty Thursday, before noon, cocktail of choice. Say hello to my Bloody delicious Mary's and you need them in your life sooner than later!
