I know that Monday was a holiday and technically this week should be flying by because it's a "short week", but for some reason that is not the case for me. I have been ready for the weekend since Tuesday! Am I alone here, or have any of you felt the same way? If I wasn't pregnant, this would have a been a cocktail heavy week for me, starting with one of my sparkling lavender lemonade's!
I've been out of the cocktail game for seven months now, and I'll admit my experimentation has gone down because I guess it just isn't as fun when you can't drink your concoctions. That on top of being in and out of town, and slightly preoccupied with baby stuff, I have failed you in the cocktail department. But lucky for you, my hubby has recently decided to make up for my lack of mixology in the house and has starting mixing up some cocktails of his own! The southern cucumber happens to be his new favorite and is the perfect drink to finish out summer!
Give me all the melons. I am currently eating cantaloupe and watermelon like I'll never see another one in my entire life. They are so sweet and candy like and lately they have been saving me from binging on things like sour patch kids...true story. Of course that's the preggers in me talking. If I wasn't pregnant however, I would be sipping on one of my cantaloupe salty dogs as often as I could because it just might be the perfect summer cocktail!
I grew up salting my melons. That's the way all of the women in my family do it. "It brings out the flavor", my mom would always tell me. And you know what? She was right. It really does make any melon extra delicious. Canean thinks I am crazy and has never hopped on the salted melon band wagon. But, that's okay...he doesn't know what he's missing!
I've been planning out our 4th of July menu for a couple of days now. We have friends coming into town from Louisiana and I have been figuring out what our menu is going to look like over the weekend, including cocktails! For the 4th we are going all American and I'll be serving up ribs, homemade baked beans, corn, and slaw and I thought the perfect cocktail to accompany such a menu needed to be super summery, fresh, and fun! My raspberry and lime vodka sno cones are the ultimate 4th of July drink to serve up at any celebration this weekend!
I never outgrew the sno cone age. I have loved them right into adulthood. I am not
Summer has arrived guys. The heat is rising and it is HOT out there. Our poor air conditioner hasn't been able to take a break and I wish I could tell it how much this pregnant lady appreciates being able to stay cool. The thought of going to buy a baby pool to put on the back porch for me to sit in, maybe with ice surrounding me, is becoming more and more appealing with each passing day. The only other thing that makes Summer more tolerable is a refreshing cocktail which is totally necessary in order to survive the heat. I'll have to stick to mocktails for now, but for you...for you I bring you the cherry French 75! Perfectly refreshing and summery, and sure to help you forget about your sweat drenched bra.
And don't pretend that you don't know about the sweat drenched bra. It's a thing, and there isn't anything sexy about it. For you guys who probably aren't wearing bras, I'm sure you can still relate! Good thing for you if you are holding one of these cocktails, not only will you forget about your sweltering body, but others around you will too.
In the South, you grow up drinking sweet iced tea. It's a staple at everyone's house and more than likely if you go and visit someone, sweet tea will be offered to you. In my opinion, you should never pass up homemade sweet iced tea. It's so refreshing, tooth achingly sweet, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't keep sweet tea in the house at all times because Canean and I would drink entirely too much of it, but I thought this week a peach sweet iced tea with bourbon sounded like the perfect cocktail to dive into summer and to channel my Tennessee roots.
If ever there were a trio that was meant to be together, it is sweet tea, peaches, and bourbon. The flavors pair effortlessly together creating the ultimate refreshing cocktail! Peaches are just coming into season meaning they are getting sweeter and sweeter by the week and that means I am entering my peach obsession phase. Which apparently I have had since I was a little girl. My mom will tell you that I would eat as many peaches as she would give me and not much has changed!
