It's been a minute since I've had a weekend that wasn't scheduled to the max. It seems like September went by in a whirl and October is following down the same path. How is it already the middle of the month? After Halloween, the year really flies by and I have a jammed packed November, which means that Christmas will be here like...tomorrow. Scary. Anyway this weekend Canean was out of town and it was just me and the pups.
Here's my weekend run-down.
Friday night I had a girlfriend over and I made eggplant lasagna, a big salad, and we drank some wine, naturally. We also watched Divergent, because we've read the books (which I loved) and hung out on the couch and chatted most of the night.
Saturday morning I went to the farmer's market and was super excited to see some new fall produce starting to pop up and filled both my bags up with fresh veggies, eggs, and meats for the week. I love my Saturday morning farmer's market time. I see familiar faces, chat with my favorite farmers and get yummy and healthy food for the week. Last week I was totally thrown off because I was out of town and missed the market and I absolutely hate doing all of my shopping in a regular grocery store. I end up very uninspired for the week and go the store about fifty times more than necessary.
I spent the rest of the morning by going to the local library (my new favorite thing to do) and spent two hours going up and down the aisles filling my tote with romantical (it's a word) books and cookbooks. I headed home from the library to plan my menu for the week and did a little inspiration by scanning the pages of four new cookbooks. I really love cookbooks, I could get lost in them forever. Which is what I did...completely bypassing anything productive on Saturday.
After I made myself hungry by looking at one delicious recipe after another, I spent the rest of the afternoon engrossed in a girlie, no brainer, definitely not making me smarter book. Which is the kind I like. I caught up on the phone with my bff, who lives in New York and then literally read until I went to bed. I highly recommend scheduling out a day like that for yourself, I need them from time to time to keep me sane. I have to forget about my to-do list and just escape.
Sunday morning I started my day off by walking Amos and Rutledge because it was a gorgeous morning and then came back home to make a yummy tomato galette (recipe coming soon), because Sundays make me want to cook and bake and have the house smelling of yummy smells all day. I made a farm fresh, roasted chicken for dinner because Canean came back home from his trip last night. I knew he had been eating nothing but junk, and needed a home-cooked and healthy meal after his weekend of guy food. You know wings, pizza, brats, not a vegetable in sight...
Even though I really do enjoy my me time, I sure missed my man and two days away from him is plenty for me. I spent most of the afternoon glancing at the clock and feeling like time was stuck at 1:00 waiting for him to get home. We ate dinner, looked at pictures from his trip, made up for some lost weekend snuggles, and then rounded off the night watching Homeland and Revenge.
Lazy weekends are a necessity if you ask me and sometimes you have to get kidnapped by a good book, sleep till 8:30 if the dogs will let you, have some girl time, and push everything else out of your brain even if it's just for the afternoon.
Enough about me, how was your weekend?
