When is the last time you just went for a drive? Just a drive...with no purpose of where you are headed, but solely to enjoy the afternoon and maybe someone that you love. I couldn't have told you the last time I went for a drive just for the heck of it. Canean on the other hand, loves to get in his truck and drive until he feels like turning around, it's like therapy to him. The kind of drive where you get lost to the sound of the music, the thoughts in your head, and the scenery around you. So yesterday, we went for a drive, the two of us and the dogs. There is just something about Sunday drives, they are good for the soul.
We loaded the dogs in the truck, I threw my to-do list to the side, and agreed that it would be nice since I couldn't remember the last time that we went on a drive together with nowhere to go.
And you know what? It was really nice. Nice to just sit beside my husband listening to good music, watching our surroundings change from city to countryside within a matter of minutes and just enjoying the afternoon. Turning my mind off from what I thought I had to get done and just enjoying our couple hours of peace together.
It was the perfect escape as we drove in and out of afternoon showers and thunderstorms as little rays of sun shone through the clouds not letting the rain completely take our afternoon away from us.
We laughed, we were quiet, we let the dogs run leash free, we all came back tired and ready for our Sunday naps and in that moment, I was glad that I did not let my Sunday to-dos get in the way of a special day with my sweet man.
One thing I know for sure is that tomorrow is tricky and not guaranteed. And I don't want to waste a moment of today doing the laundry instead of being with the person who makes everyday my favorite day when we are together.
It's hard to do as women. To not all of the things in our head that we know we have to do dictate our days, but take some time for yourself or with the one you love. Do something out of the ordinary and leave your list for another day.
You might just surprise yourself how much better you feel afterwards...
