It’s official, we are bringing back Thirsty Thursdays! Who is excited? Back in the day I used to post a new cocktail every Thursday and it was something that I got away from when life got busy, but you guys are wanting to see it happen again, so here we are. I say cheers to that. One of my favorite cocktails in the summer is a paloma, they are so refreshing and perfect for poolside, backyard bbq’s, and more! I spiced up the classic cocktail and made my new favorite version of the drink. This recipe for spicy palomas is one that is the perfect mix of flavors, with just a hint of spice and it couldn’t be any easier to make.
If you are a tequila fan, then this cocktail is for you. I love a good margarita, don’t get me wrong, but a paloma is a great swap for when you want to try something different. I love the pink color that the grapefruit gives the cocktail and the tartness pairs so well with the spice from the jalapeno. I like to combine a little chili powder with the salt for a spiced rim that really adds great flavor to the drink too. You can also make this cocktail sweeter if you prefer by adding more agave or honey into the mix. I happen to like mine not on the sweet side, so I like just a touch of sweetness to balance out the heat in mine.
If you prefer your cocktails to not be spicy, then simply omit the jalapeno here. The jalapeno is totally optional, but there is something about that little touch of heat on the back of your throat after you take a sip hat is really delicious. If you haven’t ever had a cocktail with jalapeno, I think it’s definitely worth a try.
I hope you will join in on the thirsty Thursday fun and make yourself a new cocktail this weekend! Cheers!
Ingredients:
1 1/4 Cup Freshly Squeezed Grapefruit Juice
1/4 Cup Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
6 Thin Slices of Jalapeno
5 Oz. Silver Tequila
1 Tbsp. Agave or Honey
1 Tsp. Chili Powder
2 Tbsp. Coarse Salt
Directions:
Mix grapefruit juice, lime juice, jalapeno slices, tequila, and agave in a cocktail shaker or large mason jar and shake to combine.
With a spoon or end of a wooden spoon, slightly bruise the jalapeno to release some heat.
Combine chili powder and salt and pour onto a small plate.
With a lime wedge, go around the edge of two glasses and then dip into the chili powder salt mixture.
Pour paloma over crushed ice and serve immediately.
Give this spicy paloma a try the next time you are making a cocktail! I promise that you are going to love it.
