If you have ever wanted to make homemade donuts but don’t want to deal with the mess of actually frying donuts and making a homemade dough, this recipe is for you! Using a can of store bought biscuits and utilizing your air fryer, making donuts has never been easier. An air fryer creates the perfect environment to create a donut that gets golden on the outside while remaining tender on the inside. These easy air fryer biscuit donuts are so simple yet delicious, and they will become one of your favorite breakfast treats that the whole family can enjoy.
These air fryer donuts are lighter than a traditional donut by not using any grease to cook them and they can be ready in 15 minutes from start to finish. The prep is minimal and I love that you can customize your donut toppings and flavors however you like! These are the perfect weekend treat and they are so simple that even your kiddos can get involved in the process of topping them after cooking.
Simply use a can of store bought biscuit dough and cut out the center to have a hole inside so the biscuits now look like a donut. If you don’t have a small cutter for the center, simply use a bottle cap, or even a napkin ring (which is what I did) and it will work just perfectly. From there you air fry the biscuit donuts until golden brown and then top with delicious toppings like cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, icing, and we love nutella too! The options are endless, so have fun with it.
What if I don’t have an Air Fryer?
No worries, you can also bake these in the oven the same way you would bake them as biscuits! They may not get as golden on all sides, but they will still be delicious!
You are going to love making these delicious air fryer biscuit donuts the next time you want to add yummy treat to the breakfast spread at your house! Enjoy!
ingredients:
I Can Refrigerator Biscuits (homestyle or flaky)
4 Tbsp. Melted Butter
For Toppings-
Nutella
Cinnamon Sugar (1/2 Cup Sugar and 1 Tbsp. Cinnamon mixed together)
Powdered Sugar
Simple Icing (1 Cup powdered sugar and 2 Tbsp. Heavy Cream or Milk Whisked Together until smooth)
Sprinkles
Directions:
Remove biscuits from the can and cut out a hole in the middle of each biscuit making a donut shape. You can use a bottle cap, napkin ring, or an actual donut hole cutter for this. Save the donut holes as well.
Air fry the donuts and holes for 12-14 minutes at 400, flipping halfway through until golden brown.
Once donuts have cooled slightly, top with desired toppings.
For cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar donuts, simply dip the donuts into melted butter coating totally. Shake off any excess.
Immediately dip the butter coated donuts into the cinnamon sugar mixture or powdered sugar and cover completely and shake off excess.
For nutella, simply spread the desired amount over top and sprinkle with sprinkles.
For icing, dip the top of the donut into the icing and then sprinkle with sprinkles if desired.
Note: Feel free to top with a chocolate icing, color the white icing with food coloring, or make a glazed version. There really are so many options to play around with!
Now the only questions is, which donut are you going for first?
